First of all, I've been working on this a fair bit and would love to hear if you've done anything more with the idea yourself!

Second, Ableton Live v5 is really, really close. I started messing with it about 3-4 months ago and have piled in about four gigs (!) of loops into one set, and it balances them surprisingly well with few delays or glitches. I have yet to find a real intuitive way to make my Behringer BCR2000 control it all, but it's definitely the first step...

Anyway, drop me a line if you wanna discuss: I'm at ecc at evolution-control d0t c0m.

This is exactly what i'm doing here. I'm using Ableton Live v.4 with hardware midi-controllers. In combination with the Midi-OX - MidiYoke freeware it is possible to access nearly any control i wish to have, in the way i want it to have.. I can do DJ-sets exactly the way you describe it. even more, every now & then i can grab my POD-amplified guitar, the color of the scenes (songs) that were launched indicate what note they're in, so i can start playing exactly in tune. I can even start playing on a beat & then slightly mix a track in & it appears to be in tune.. So i'm not only mixing on the beat, but also in tune.. not only using hands, but also feet. Used controllers are : BCR2000,BCF2000,FCB1010, all Behringer products. Ah almost forgot the edirol midi-controller keyboards. Feel free to ask more..

Hi Peter,
I haven't run into many since Rocket Networks, though there are several remix software packages that could be adapted, I'm sure you're aware of Umixit by Cakewalk, Beaterator, Digimpro and others.
I am a musician who started a software company - Outhink to try to contribute to the ability for musicians and other artists to connect from different locations and make "music". I'm glad to see your post and look forward to seeing additional feedback as to what people are seeing out there.
